Associate Solicitor – Aboriginal Law

Support our broad, First Nations client portfolio with an emphasis on supporting and advising Indigenous governments, as well as economic development and corporate commercial matters. Grow your practice in a collaborative team environment while developing strategic and creative legal solutions for our clients and their communities.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Currently qualified to practice law in British Columbia.
  • Secure understanding of public law, with experience advising Indigenous, municipal or other government entities, and/or business law, including experience drafting contracts, leases, purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, etc.
  • Exceptional client service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning capabilities.

Additional Assets

  • Experience in legislative drafting and/or real estate transactions.
  • Called to the bar in Yukon, Northwest Territories, or other jurisdictions.

Legal Assistant – Litigation

Legal Assistant – Litigation

We are looking for a Legal Practice Assistant to work alongside the Litigation team in providing administrative and legal support to lawyers and their respective clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drafting correspondence and legal documents
  • Organizing documents in preparation for trial and court hearings
  • Maintaining files; including daily filing, file organization, opening files, closing files, etc.
  • Prioritizing workflow to ensure completion of accurate work, within established deadlines
  • Organizing, assembling and filing books of authorities, appeal records, and appeal books
  • Preparing list of documents
  • Managing key dates including bring forward system and updating calendars for assigned lawyers, including meetings, appointments, due dates and client-related activities
  • Managing and filing documents online
  • Compiling electronic documents for court filings and for document production
  • Work in all levels of court, Provincial, Federal and National Energy Board
  • Responsible for billing and time-entry
  • General administrative tasks and vacation coverage as required

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal
  • Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate from a recognized program
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Familiar with Supreme Court Rules
  • Good working knowledge of Eclipse iPro, Summation, Worldox and Esi Law are considered assets
  • Ability to accurately handle a high volume of work
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment

We are currently looking for an Administrative/Executive Assistant to join our team based out of our North Vancouver office. Grow your experience in a collaborative team environment while supporting one of our Senior Partners with general administrative and organizational duties.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Effective and proactive calendar management based on Partner’s needs and priorities, including scheduling and following-up on appointments, arranging internal and external meetings
  • Processing incoming communication and evaluating external inquiries and requests
  • Managing and maintaining Partner’s mailbox
  • Booking travel, hotels, accommodations, in addition to booking conferences, seminars and webinars
  • Updating time entries, generating invoices and statements, submitting expense reports
  • Creation of binders, file openings and general filing (both electronic and paper)
  • Maintaining file lists and general team documents
  • Supporting the team with other administrative tasks as required

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working as an Administrative Assistant and/or Executive Assistant, preferably for senior management or C-suite in a professional environment 
  • Experience in a law firm or legal setting is considered an asset
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe, as well as an ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills and ability to work under pressure to meet important deadlines
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment

We are currently seeking a full-time permanent Legal Administrative Assistant/Floater to join our Firm. This position provides many opportunities to be exposed to and learn our practice areas while working within a growing, vibrant and team-oriented environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary coverage for Legal Assistants who are out of office or on vacation, in addition to workload assistance
  • Provide support to Partners, Associates and Paralegals within various practice groups
  • Draft correspondence and prepare documentation
  • Manage and file documents in files and online
  • Billing and time-entry
  • General administrative tasks, such as but not limited to scanning, photocopying and compiling court documents and briefs
  • Provide coverage for our reception and perform other related duties as required

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum 1+ year of legal experience
  • Self-directed working style, with an ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong technical and computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel and Outlook
  • Experience using EsiLaw, BC Online, MYLTSA is considered an asset
  • Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to be flexible
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
