Full time Human Resources Generalist

Responsibilities

This position provides an opportunity to contribute to all aspects of the employment relationships at our firm, including:

  • Oversee  full-cycle recruitment for legal support and administration staff positions, including updating job descriptions, preparing job postings, coordinating and conducting interviews and conducting reference checks.
  • Prepare documentation and employment paperwork, including but not limited to employment letters, new hire paperwork, and status additions, changes etc.  
  • Develop new hire orientation and welcome packages, schedules training and orientation sessions, processes new hire paperwork and introduces new hires to staff and lawyers.
  • Handle all aspects of staff payroll and benefits.
  • Manage and maintain employee records; ensures all confidential employee files are maintained according to standards and processes and are compliant with applicable laws, policies, and audit requirements.
  • Coordinate and schedule day-to-day legal administrative support to ensure proper backup and assistance is provided during unexpected absences, scheduled vacations and times of exceptionally high workload activity.
  • Manage maintenance and tracking of daily attendance and vacation records for support staff, including vacation records for support staff.
  • Coordinate practicum student placements and organizing hosts.
  • Identify performance concerns and develop learning and development plans.
  • Prepare various correspondence, documents, spreadsheets, and presentation materials.
  • Draft internal firm communications including announcements, notifications etc to articulate key messages.
  • Optimize HR’s role as a true partner by building credibility with all firm members through developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Contribute to team building, employee motivation and morale by performing related best practices and maintaining effective communication channels, organizing staff events, other firm social events and various lunch and learn sessions; ensures positive employee-employer relationships.
  • Attend to all other related tasks, responsibilities, and projects, as needed or assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant human resources experience.
  • Proficient systems knowledge and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in a professional services environment considered a strong asset.

Immediate Opening

Full time Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our Real Estate team.

Responsibilities

This role will have responsibility for handling all real estate matters, including:

  • Managing residential and commercial sales, purchases, mortgages, and administration files independently or as required by the firm’s real estate lawyers
  • Resort (including fractional) real estate transactions
  • First Nations real estate transactions
  • GST registrations
  • Prepare and draft all legal documents, correspondence, and accounts required for completion of the real estate transactions
  • Liaise with clients, financial institutions, counsel, and other external parties as needed
  • All related reporting and billing

Position Requirements

  • Graduate of a Legal Administrative Assistant or Paralegal program
  • 4 + years of legal experience in a Real Estate Department
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to independently manage a file from beginning to end
  • A self-directed working style, but also an ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills are essential (Outlook, MS Word/Excel, EsiLaw, BC Online, MYLTSA)
  • Working knowledge of ProSuite or other similar conveyancing software
  • Meticulous attention to detail 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong administration and organization skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • A high level of professionalism while working closely with lawyers, staff and clients
